KUALA LUMPUR - Pandangan bahawa menggunakan Bahasa Melayu itu kononnya kurang sofistikated harus dikikis kerana ia berada di tahap keenam paling luas digunakan di dunia selepas bahasa Cina, Inggeris, Perancis, Rusia dan India, kata Menteri Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

“Kita harus kikis pandangan dan amalan bahawa menggunakan Bahasa Melayu itu kononnya kurang sofistikated kerana sebenarnya bukan begitu.

“Ia seharusnya menjadi bahasa pengantar, bahasa perpaduan, bahasa tamadun dan bahasa pentadbiran,” katanya pada sidang akhbar selepas menjadi tetamu dalam wacana eksklusif bersama Radio Klasik Nasional di Angkasapuri semalam.

Rais berkata, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) perlu menjadi saluran utama mempopularkan penggunaan Bahasa Melayu manakala media swasta harus mempertingkatkan penggunaannya.

“Kementerian sangat berharap agar penggunaan dan populariti Bahasa Melayu dapat ditingkatkan dan RTM perlu menjadi saluran utama untuk memajukan dasar ini,” katanya.

Rais berkata, penggunaan Bahasa Melayu oleh RTM agak membanggakan tetapi penggunaannya belum menyeluruh terutamanya oleh stesen televisyen dan radio swasta.

“Saya harus tegur sedikit pencapaian oleh pihak swasta, yakni stesen-stesen radio dan TV, kadangkala bak kata orang tua, terlangsung nak wangi lalu hangit.

“Mereka menyebut sesuatu perkataan secara terlalu bersandiwara, tidak seperti seharusnya didengar. Misalnya perkataan ‘dan’. Ramai juruhebah yang menyebutnya dengan bunyi yang berbeza seperti tidak menggambarkan orang Melayu yang menuturkannya,” katanya.

Rais berkata, kementerian akan terus memantau perkara-perkara seperti ini tetapi apa yang penting juruhebah swasta perlu cintakan bahasa dan yakin bahasa Melayu merupakan bahasa komunikasi yang terbaik dan banyak digunakan di nusantara.

Beliau juga mengingatkan kakitangan kerajaan dan swasta tidak menggunakan perkataan ‘next’ dalam pembentangan sebaliknya digantikan dengan perkataan ‘seterusnya’.

Katanya, setiap kakitangan juga seharusnya tidak menggunakan bahasa asing sekiranya istilah itu terdapat dalam perbendaharaan kata bahasa Melayu.

Ditanya apakah kementerian mempunyai pendekatan daripada segi penguatkuasaan undang-undang terhadap kesalahan penggunaan bahasa Rais berkata: “Sebenarnya tidak perlu penguatkuasaan dalam soal bahasa, kita tak perlu pegang satu rotandalam soal Bahasa Melayu. Ia mesti timbul dari dalam.”

Bagi kesalahan bahasa dalam bidang pengiklanan, Rais berkata, kementerian boleh menggunakan Akta Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, iaitu jika mereka menggunakan istilah yang salah perlu diperbetulkan sahaja bukannya mengenakan denda.

”Penggunaannya bukanlah satu kesalahan tetapi ia menjurus kepada sesuatu yang lebih baik. Jika masih nak gunakan bahasa Inggeris, itu terserah. Tetapi jika lebih ramai masyarakat mengamalkan prinsip-prinsip pembahasaan yang baik bagi bahasa Melayu, maka ia akan menjadi lebih indah, sebaliknya jika terlampau banyak bahasa Inggeris di dalamnya, lama kelamaan bahasa Melayu dan identiti kemelayuan akan hilang,” katanya.

Rais berkata, beliau yakin penggunaan blog sebagai media untuk menjatuhkan orang lain akan luput dan ditolak tidak lama lagi.

Beliau mengumpamakan blog sedemikian seumpama bunga yang sedang berkembang dan harumnya akan hanya dihidu seketika di mana selepas layu ianya akan ditolak.

“Saya yakin berblog secara yang ada hari ini (menjatuhkan orang lain) ia akan luput. Lama kelamaan orang tak akan baca lagi. Ini semacam satu bunga yang kembang yang hiduan baunya yang semerbak yang dihidu sementara, lepas busuk orang tidak akan meminatinya lagi sebab sudah letih dengan bauan itu hari-hari,” katanya.

Google’s quarterly profits jumped 27 percent, year over year, to $1.65 billion, marking a very strong showing in the third quarter of a tough year and outstripping analyst’s predictions of results for the search and advertising giant. Wired.com reports.

WELCOME PROF SAHOL HAMID

Congratulations to Prof Sahol Hamid coz The Higher Education Ministry has elected Prof Datuk Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar as the new vice-chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) effective today.

Prof Sahol Hamid will replace the former vice-chancellor Tan Sri Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah who has been serving since Jan 1, 2001.

Having been in the university for the past 30 years, Prof Sahol Hamid has served in various posts including the head of programme, dean and also Penang UiTM head of campus.

His last post was as deputy vice-chancellor (academic) before he was transferred to the Higher Education Ministry in 2008.

Prof Sahol Hamid is a civil engineering graduate from UiTM. Upon graduation, he remained in UiTM as one of the lecturers at the engineering faculty.

He was responsible for the planning and management of the university’s nine main buildings and six other campuses.
